Description

Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) is a potent neuropeptide consisting of 28 amino acids. As its name suggests, it was originally isolated from the intestinal tract, but subsequent research has identified it as a widely distributed neurotransmitter and neuromodulator found in the central nervous system, lungs, and immune system.

VIP is categorized as a “master regulator” of the neuro-immuno-endocrine axis. It functions primarily by binding to VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors, triggering a cascade that relaxes smooth muscle (vasodilation) and downregulates pro-inflammatory cytokines. It is currently the subject of intense investigation regarding Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) and the restoration of hormonal homeostasis in biotoxin-exposed subjects.

• Immune Modulation (CIRS & Biotoxins): VIP is the cornerstone of research into CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome).
